This is an exciting time in our lives. We are in a unique position that gives us an opportunity to come together as a family, and recognize our ancestors, and get to know each other as family. Most important, this monumental event will bridge us to our ancestors, allows us to appreciate our elders, and for our youth to recognize their legacy. Launch the new Beyond The Boundaries CDC website
This has been a long time coming. Beyond the boundaries website will have more information about our organization. Beyond the boundaries CDC was formed to help in the growing need of creating programs to stop youth violence. Althought are primary focus is at risk youth, we know that in order to change that problem we must focus on the bigger which is family and the environment. We look forward to be the front runner in creating change in the community at at large.
Four Mile Foundation
A Foundation that honors the Four Mile Ancestors. 900 U.S Census count, approximately 17,500 with the surname of Sapp. The surnames are names of slave holder’s name. According to U.S Census data (1860-1870) , the migration of former Slaves of Four Mile Township of Barnwell County cause an increase in the African American Black population throughout. The migration increase to other states such as Georgia, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Kansas. A second migration occurred in" late 1950, amid escalating cold-war tensions, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission announced plans to construct facilities to produce plutonium and tritium for use in hydrogen bombs. One such facility, the Savannah River Plant, was built at a cost of $1.3 billion at a site that encompassed more than 315 square miles in South Carolina's Barnwell, Allendale, and Aiken counties. Some fifteen hundred families residing in small communities within the new plant's borders were forced to leave their homes. The largest of the affected towns was Ellenton, in Aiken County, with a population of 760 residents"(*Louise Cassels). The Four Mile families was part of that Exodus uprooting these families.
The struggles and hard work of Four Mile ancestors will never be forgotten. Bridging the past to the present, their legacy will be preserved for years to come by providing services and grants that foster personal and professional growth within the community and its members.
Elections
Elections for Beyond the Boundaries CDC Board will be held January 4, 2013. All candidates should submit their applications by November 4, 2012.
